Confidentiality...
Your counsellor will
treat your communications with absolute confidentiality within
the bounds of the law. Legal exceptions to confidentiality
may include disclosure if your counsellor believes that you
pose a threat to your own or another's life, or if child abuse
is suspected.
Your counsellor will discuss your counselling
with his or her counselling supervisor within a confidential
relationship. This is a requirement of the practice of counselling
and is for your protection.
Your e-mail will be delivered via our privately
owned and secured mail server and stored only on your counsellor's
computer. All of our counsellors are trained to ensure the
security of their IT equipment.
In our experience the biggest risk to confidentiality
is the equipment that you use to send your e-mails, and while
this is obviously out of our control we can advise on security.
It is obviously sensible that both your
profile on the computer that you use and your e-mail are password
protected, if there is any possibility of anyone else using
or gaining access to your equipment.
